Barcelona, Spain - Poble Español

Poble Español is an open-air museum that was built for the International Exposition of 1929. Its a mini city - complete with streets, squares, plazas and fountains - that showcases the different architectural styles of Spain. Two architects and two artists visited 1600 towns and villages gathering pictures, drawings and notes on the various elements of Spanish architecture. They then built a small city with each barrio having a distinct regional style. It was supposed to be demolished after the Exposition, but has survived to recently celebrate its 75th anniversary. It has been a tourist attraction since the Exposition with the exception of a period during the Spanish Civil War when it was used as a prisoner camp. But don´t be fooled, this little city is alive. It has craft stores, restaurants, schools and shops. Its fun to walk the city and marvel at the different styles, building materials and designs.

Interesting seeing the different architecture and how clean the place is too.

Fortunately, since this is a tourist attraction, you don't have the locals letting their dogs piss and shit on the sidewalks.

Have the phrases, 'The city is alive' and 'there are a lot of craft stores' ever been linked?

Only by a wordsmith such as myself.

Things are really boring here, the only excitement is beer and afternoon thunderstorms. The weekend will be warm and afternoon thunderstorms are expected on saturday and sunday. Next week will be more of the same but Project Runway is pretty good but not as good as ANSM. Did Standoff start before or after you left Dave? It's good but sometimes I think it's too much like CSI but it's better then nothing. Right? Ok Dave I've got beans cooking now and then desert! ;) Bye.

Is this place completely pedestrian only? Do they allow cyclists to ride around?
